Puccini

I find that even the idea of a caboose is romantic in the extreme, and immediately evocative of the golden age of rail transport. So, after a day of exams in Regina, I went exploring and discovered not just one, but two caboose (cabii?), de-commissioned and left rather forlornly in the middle of a broad expanse of rail lines. Once a massive prairie hub for grain transport and general transport, now these two cars, hitched together, only had each other for company until I wandered along!

I felt that this aria of Puccini’s from La Boheme, ‘Sono Andati’ (Are They Gone Now) was somehow apt. Compare the rather spare acoustic of this caboose interior with the ambience of this related recording, created nearby later the same afternoon.

And for you HO freaks out there!
