UrbanFlute is not just about the flute, and this summer there has been a veritable explosion of theatre in Toronto. Case in point, my friend Martin Julien has written a new play ‘Home Free‘ as part of SummerWork, presented this week at the Factory Theatre MainSpace.

Previous recent plays – often with powerful musical elements – that Martin has written or performed in include ‘The Unanswered Question‘, exploring the enigmatic yet iconic Leonard Bernstein, ‘The Wrong Son‘ in collaboration with Arraymusic, as well as a most intriguing production of ‘Have I None‘ in the hull of a massive, metal ship, docked in Toronto Harbour. It is this last that was most intriguing from an acoustic perspective!

If you are like me, and had never been to Captain John’s Harbour Boat, I encourage you to head down to waters edge to try their chowder…you will not be disappointed!

Speaking of intriguing marine spaces, here is an encouraging update on the historic Cutty Sark, which recently suffered a devastating fire…okay, lost that link to the ocean of information on YouTube, but found their official website!
