Aulde Lang Syne, Take 2
I don’t know about you, but my 2010 has started with a bang, and the adventures have begun already in earnest! One aspect of Urban Flute Project is to explore what I call comparative acoustics, and so here is a classic example for you.
After recording a solo flute version of Aulde Lang Syne at Laywine’s earlier in the day, I dropped by Mitzi’s Sister out in Parkdale to mark the end of the year and happened to catch this contrasting version of the same traditional Scottish ballad, the one made famous by Robbie Burns.
It was a great way to see in the New Year, together with family and friends while checking out some great music courtesy of two local bands, The Warped 45′s and Milk Run…what can I say, Mitzi’s Sister rocks!
While my Nikon is in for repairs, this photo is courtesy of my colleague and good friend, Bruce Redstone, a wonderful musician and photographer. While still gigging and teaching as a Sax player, he recently decided to dive into a 2-year photography course at Humber College and is having a blast, and judging by the results that he is getting the course is fantastic – it’s Bruce who introduced me to the whole Phanfare platform where I have assembled a number of fun slideshows.
Check out Bruce’s accomplished photography and music as presented on his Phanfare site here.
Thanks Bruce, and best wishes to everyone for a Happy and Prosperous 2010!
