Haydn, London Trio #3, Allegro

Thanks to everyone who attended Urban Flute Ensemble‘s performance earlier this week, the third in a series of monthly concerts at St. Anne’s Anglican Church in Toronto’s west end. When we finished our prepared program, the strange thing was that no one got up out of their seats. Everyone to a person remained sitting, seemingly transfixed by the space, or quietly falling into conversation with their neighbour in the old wooden pews. We had already packed up our instruments, but since no-one seemed to be in a hurry to leave, I suggested that we play a little more music, which was met by a chorus of approval. So here is a movement from Haydn’s London Trios that we offered up as an impromptu encore!

This historic church is Toronto’s Taj Mahal for sublime acoustics, so it is no wonder that the CBC chooses this location on a regular basis for their recording sessions – it really has to be seen and heard to be believed! There’s something about a large, acoustic space that is expansive for the mind and soul, especially when the interior of the sanctuary features original artwork and design by members of Canada’s Group of Seven.

St. Anne’s is truly a historic treasure of national significance.

Our next recital at St. Anne’s will take place Wednesday, January 13th at 7.30pm…hope to see you there!
