Duo for Flute & Chairlift 2
Here is a second improv that I recorded while riding the chairlift at Mansfield Ski Club. In this one I incorporate some flutter-tonguing to mimic the distinctive chattering of the chair as it passes each of the 60 foot pylons. Thankfully there weren’t many skiers on the slopes that afternoon, so I basically had the chairlift to myself. I guess I would have played flute anyways, just for the novelty of it, as well as for whoever might happen to have be within earshot!
These are casual improvs in a novel setting, and I figure my noodling around here isn’t bad considering it’s my first time trying out this new bamboo flute – I love the open acoustic and ambient sounds that create the wintry atmosphere! Riding a chairlift can sometimes be incredibly monotonous or, in turn, surprisingly dramatic and exhilarating. It depends on many factors: ones mood, the weather, how crowded the slopes are, etc, etc. Other times it just gets you up the hill, which is a treat in itself!
I may expand on this post at a later date, where I will wax poetic about things skiing. However, having recently resolved some lingering technical issues with the tech support of Summerhill Design, I’m keen to get to some new content on the site.
In the meantime, especially for you skiing fanatics, here is the sound of getting off the chairlift and sliding over the snow to the crest of the nearest thing to a Black Diamond run that I could find that day:
