Riverport Meditation

riverport-melody-2Riverport Meditation

Late in the summer, I had a wonderful trip to the east coast, where I collaborated with musical friends in a fundraising concert. Soundfiles and more about the concert in coming posts!

On my last morning in Riverport, 20 minutes south of historic Lunenburg, I took a short walk away from the house by the ocean where I had been staying. I was determined to do a short improvisation on my First Nations flute, in part as a way to decompress after our successful event.

The ambience of this wooded area was magical, especially with shafts of early-morning sun piercing across the forest floor. A gentle breeze sighed through the treetops, and birds seemed drawn to the sound of the flute being played in its natural setting.

Still Alive and Kicking!

Apologies to my readers, as I never intended to leave you in that burnt-out church basement all summer, as described in the previous post!

Intrepid roving music journalist that I am, when I caught a glimpse of Rueben, pictured here, striding down the sidewalk in front of my place, playing guitar and singing as he passed, how could I resist grabbing my recorder and running down the street in my sock feet to catch a sound file of his great, spontaneous music-making?

As he mentions after his accomplished musical offering, he will appearing with hisĀ El Mosquito Band at Toronto’s landmark Silver Dollar on October 3rd at 9.45 pm.

I guess it’s late in the summer for mosquitoes, but consider this a spontaneous post to jump back into the fray…it’s been an action-packed summer, lots of Urban Flute tales to tell, rest assured!

Hope to see you at the Silver Dollar on October 3rd, as Rueben and his band offer a chance to ‘Rock for Charity’.
