Belly of the Beast
Well, not to ruin it for you if you ever have a chance to visit here under the Golden Gate Bridge, but this is what you might find there! This armoury, directly under the arches at the south end of this fabled bridge, and originally built to guard the narrows leading into the San Francisco Bay, absolutely caught me broadside.
The incessant wind ripping in off the open ocean and the rumble of traffic from overhead combined with this evocative, unique architectural space in such a way that it simply blew me away!
I set up to play this Golden Gate reel in one of the ground-level archways. Unfortunately, in my excitement, I kinda misjudged the levels for recording: my sincere apologies, but this recording is as much about the ambient sounds in the background as it is about my flute-playing!
