Fish Tales Pinball!

UrbanFlute posts feel a little like telling stories about fishing expeditions, you know, the tall tales, as well as the ones that got away. In the case of my two short stopovers in Joplin, it really feels more like I’d left my fishing rod behind without the Entertainer to read through, or maybe the Maple Leaf Rag!

We literally had minutes to do the usual thing, poke around the deserted bus station, stretch our legs, peer at the vending machines, hands fumbling through pockets of loose change. Myself, though, I spotted what turned out to be a great pinball machine called Fish Tales and here is what it sounds like, a cliched slice of mid-America! It sounds a little like The Dukes of Hazard mixed with the virtuostic picking of The Coole Trio! In the post that follows, there is reference to skateboarding – while playing the tin whistle – so here is a playful and quite humorous related short called A Fish Tale, presented by Loaded Boards and with music by One Guy Trio out of Massachusets.
Next time I’m passing through Joplin, I’ll have to be come prepared, maybe with A Piece of my Heart, or Summertime! And at the risk of getting a little carried away with the whole Joplin thing, here’s Janis singing Cry Baby in Toronto back in 1970. You gotta love YouTube, and you have to simply marvel at Janis: what an extraordinary voice!

Okay, more fish stories, coming right up…
