With a profusion of sound files and images that I’m sorting through, I did a double take for a folder marked ‘Taylor, Eliz’, especially with the Toronto International Film Festival in town!

Then I realized that it was in fact the Taylor Family of early Toronto fame, one of the original families to have established homes and businesses in and around the Don Valley, where Todmorden and the Brickworks are today. The details elude me now, however Ina Grafton Gage Retirement Home, where I provide music on a weekly basis, figures in this colourful history.

I learned of this Taylor Cemetery, just down the street from Ina Grafton, from an engaging book I picked up from Ten Editions Bookstore on Spadina earlier in the summer.

This recording was completed in the adjacent church; more on both the book and church in future posts on UrbanFlute.

Perhaps if there is a bloodline to the Liz Taylor dynasty, they might pitch in funds to make this historic cemetery more accessible to the general public, as its fallen into some neglect in recent years!
