A Forgotten Courtyard

To compliment my solo flute pieces, I discovered the middle movement of Gary Kulesha’s Symphony No. 3 (Andante) to be particularily poignant for this setting: lyrical and full of emotion. I first met Gary through my participation in the Canadian Music Centre’s Contemporary Showcase which at the time took place in the hallowed halls of U of T’s Hart House - well actually it was in one of their splendid reading rooms. He was my adjudicator, and for me there is a distinct pleasure to find myself at a point in my career that I have been asked to return as an adjudicator on more than one occasion. Simply put, the Contemporary Showcase is a superb event! Since that time, Gary has firmly established himself in the Canadian Music Scene, and his name is synonomous with making Contemporary Canadian Music accessible and relevant to the masses!

In the composers own words with regard to his recently premiered symphony: “I… found that I desperately needed to have more fun in the act of making music. Composition is a complex process, an alchemical blend of intellect and intuition, skill and inspiration.”
