Muir Garden
At the outset of exploring various aspects of Toronto, and with the unseasonably warm weather extending in to November, I took the opportunity to play outdoors.
I had always thought of this park near Lawrence and Yonge as the Rose Garden, however, as I looked about for a spot to play, I came upon this plaque, which immediately confirmed a musical significance to the location.
There was in fact a whole sequence of events that unfolded, including the recording of my outdoor playing later in the morning at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Mausoleum, which you can listen to by pushing the play icon, above.
Peter Simon, who happened to be walking his dog in the park just as I was recording, has pointed out that Muir’s gravesite is located in Mount Pleasant Cemetery - a graveside rendition of ‘The Maple Leaf Forever’, Canada’s second national anthem, is in the works…
