Theatre in the round…hull of a ship!

My friend who wrote the play about Bernstein, ‘The Unanswered Question’, which was recently premiered at the National Arts Centre, is in an upcoming play here in Toronto.

In Martin’s own words:

OK. I’m doing this show. By Edward Bond. (Sublime.) In the basement hull of a ship! (Cap’t John’s Harbour Restaurant - worth the price of admission alone…)

…and a description from the May issue of Toronto Life:

Edward Bond isn’t afraid of a little controversy. Over the past five decades, Britain’s bad-boy dramatist has written scenes involving a baby stoning and a lesbian relationship between Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale, agitprop plays about racism, and the first warts-and-all translation of Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening. These days, he’s more interested in the apocalypse, as made manifest in this 2000 offering, a futuristic parable set in a world where families have been eradicated, behaviour is supervised, memories are outlawed, and one man’s presence threatens to send it all spiralling into chaos. Croatian director Lary Zappia helms this Canadian premiere starring Dusan Dukic and Martin Julien. Preview May 6; $18; May 8 - 20; $20 - 35$.

‘Helms’ being the operative word!?
