Apache (The Shadows)

Quite spontaneouly, Michael Occhipinti and I had an opportunity to share the stage with a most remarkable instrument – this was a wonderful event, and I hope you spread the word about Jowi Taylor’s extraordinary guitar and his Six String Nation Project. The day before, Michael Occhipinti had invited me to join him in playing a tribute piece he had written for Bruce Cockburn, ‘High Romance’, to kick off Jowi Taylor’s ecclectic concert showcasing his Six String Nation Guitar at the RCM – I have to admit that it was a little distracting: to share the stage with an instrument that is the very embodiment of all things Canadian!

(the duo doesn’t seem to want to upload: please check back soon!)

This is more than just a duet for Flute and Paddle – Trudeau’s paddle, no less! – which you will discover if you read about the 60+ Canadian Artifacts that went into the making of the instrument: this guitar’s full, rich voice is ‘Strong and Free’!

Did you know that ‘The Shadows’ are operating in our city? No, they were not the target of that recent OPP sting operation! I learned that there is a thriving, active fan club for this British bandright here in Toronto, the very band that had the hit ‘Apache’…I hadn’t heard this tune since I was maybe 10 years old!
